The North Carolina Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (NCOGS), founded in 1981, was created to unite and advance the shared professional interests of OB-GYNs across the state. What began as a focused initiative has grown into a vibrant community of nearly 1,000 members—spanning physicians, residents, and advanced practice providers—dedicated to excellence in obstetrical and gynecological health.
Dr. Lisa Foglia is a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist and MFM Fellowship Director at Mountain Area Heatlh Education Center. She is an Army Veteran, with nearly 25 years of active duty service including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. The majority of her military career was devoted to Graduate Medical Education; she served as the ACGME Designated Institutional Official and Director of Medical Education & Research at Womack Army Medical Center, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina from 2018-2022. She loves yoga, the Asheville food scene, and hanging out with her dog Sophie.

Amy Bryant, MD, MSCR, is an Associate Professor and Division Director of Complex Family Planning in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UNC School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2005 and a Master of Science in Clinical Research from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health in 2011. She is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology with a subspecialty in Complex Family Planning and currently provides care at UNC Health. Dr. Bryant is also widely recognized for her leadership in reproductive health advocacy.

Courtney Strickland, MD, grew up in Richmond, Virginia. She received her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed residency training at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor and the Residency Program Director for ECU Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Alan Rosenbaum, MD, MSCR, MSBME, FACOG

Dr. Alan Rosenbaum is an OB-GYN Hospitalist who practices in several facilities around the country. He has an interest in biomedical engineering and founded and operates a startup company building a women’s health device to improve sexual health quality of life; it has been evaluated favorably in an NIH grant studying female cancer survivors with chronic pelvic pain and dyspareunia. Dr. Rosenbaum also chairs GOPAC and regularly engages with elected leaders to pass policies that improve the lives of everyday North Carolinian women and their families.
April M. Miller, MD

April Milan Miller, MD, is an obstetrician-gynecologist and Assistant Professor at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A native of Kinston, NC, she earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012 and completed her residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2016. Her clinical practice focuses on high-risk pregnancy, pregnancy weight management, and anxiety, and she is frequently featured as a community health expert on local news outlets like FOX8.

Thor Svendsen, MD, is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist with over 30 years of experience, currently practicing at Novant Health Rankin OB-GYN in Charlotte, North Carolina. A graduate of the UNC School of Medicine, he has served as the Chair of the OB-GYN Department at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center since 2018.
Clayton Alfonzo, MD

Dr. Clayton Alfonso is a general OBGYN and complex family planning specialist at Duke University. He is currently the Chair of the NC Section of ACOG, as well as the Legislative Chair for District IV of ACOG. His clinical areas of expertise include LGBTQ+ care. Outside of direct patient care, he enjoys state and federal advocacy efforts to improve our patients, colleagues, and communities. He is originally from Louisiana and an avid LSU sports fan.

Dr. Jamila Wade is a board-certified OB/GYN who currently works at Piedmont HealthCare Obstetrics & Gynecology in Statesville. Born and raised in Florida, Dr. Jamila Wade graduated with a bachelor’s in science from the University of Miami. She then received her master’s in business administration and health care management at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, MI. Dr. Wade received her doctorate in medicine at St. Mathew’s University in the Cayman Islands. Following medical school, she completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency as chief resident at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Wade and her family originally moved to the area to work for Davis Medical Group. Upon Davis’s Hospital closing, Dr. Wade decided to continue to serve women in the Statesville community at Piedmont HealthCare OB/GYN.
